WHAM Injury Prevention Program

The WHAM Injury Prevention program is designed to provide emergency response crews with prevention information to use during a 9-1-1 call.

This program was designed and piloted in Pierce County with funding provided by Safe Kids Pierce County and West Region EMS and Trauma.

"Where prevention and action meet"

"WHAM" stands for:

 Why are we here?

How can we prevent the same injury from happening again?

Action to take to prevent future injuries

Materials to leave behind to educate the patient and/or family

Safe Kids Pierce County, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department and local fire and injury prevention personnel have designed key injury prevention modules to be incorporated into monthly supplemental EMS training.  These materials will assist first responders in providing consistent, accurate and appropriate education, as well as advise patients and caregivers of local resources during the "teachable moment" following an injury.
